48 nations. 104 matches. One departure point.

The biggest tournament in the world, closer than you think

The World Cup is coming to North America this summer, and your journey can start at Manchester Airport.

With 22 million people within a two-hour drive – from Scotland to the Midlands, Yorkshire to Wales – it's a convenient long-haul departure point for much of the UK, putting the tournament within easy reach.

Here’s everything you need to plan your World Cup trip from Manchester.

Where to fly for World Cup 2026

Forty-eight nations, sixteen host cities, one hundred and four matches – FIFA has called it the most ambitious World Cup ever staged. From Manchester Airport, you can fly direct to several host cities, with easy connections to the rest. Here’s a look at what each one offers.

Flights to Miami from Manchester

Miami hosts seven World Cup matches at Miami Stadium – the venue officially known as Hard Rock Stadium – between 15 June and 18 July, including a quarter-final and the third-place play-off. Standout fixtures include Brazil vs Scotland on 24 June and Portugal vs Colombia on 27 June. Beyond the football, Miami is one of the most vibrant cities in the United States – waterfront fan zones at Bayfront Park, a Latin American food scene unlike anywhere else, and a nightlife that runs well past final whistles. Virgin Atlantic flies direct to Miami from Terminal 2.

Flights to New York from Manchester

Fan zones across Times Square, Central Park on the afternoon before kick-off, and a city that stays up late regardless of the occasion. Fly direct to JFK with Virgin Atlantic from Terminal 2.

Flights to Atlanta from Manchester

Atlanta hasn’t just embraced football – it’s built its identity around it. Atlanta United has turned Mercedes-Benz Stadium into one of the loudest, most electric arenas in world football. With 72,000 fans, a retractable roof and a 360-degree halo video board, it’s hosting a semi-final this summer. Between matches, explore the BeltLine, visit the MLK Jr. National Historic Site, and eat your way through the best Southern food you’ve ever had. Flights to Boston from Manchester

Boston takes sports seriously. When Gillette Stadium hosts its World Cup quarter-final, you’ll feel it across the entire city – not just in the stadium. Walk the Freedom Trail, eat in the North End, and spend time in one of the most distinctly American cities on the East Coast. There are no direct flights from Manchester to Boston, but Aer Lingus operates a well-established connecting service via Dublin. This comes with the added benefit of US pre-clearance at Dublin Airport, meaning you clear US immigration before you leave Ireland. See the Dublin connection section below for full details.

BMO Field is near the Lake Ontario waterfront, and neighbourhoods like Kensington Market are worth entire days of exploring. Direct flights vs. the Dublin connection

When it comes to reaching North America from Manchester, you've got two options – a direct long-haul flight from Terminal 2, or a tactical connection via Dublin. Here's how to choose.

Direct flights from Manchester Airport – Terminal 2

For most fans, a direct flight is the simplest option. Virgin Atlantic flies direct to New York JFK, Atlanta, and Miami from Terminal 2. Air Canada serves Toronto Pearson (YYZ). Book early as flights during the World Cup period are in demand.

Connecting via Dublin – the pre-clearance advantage

If you’re travelling to Boston or other US East Coast cities not served directly from Manchester, connecting through Dublin is a well-established and genuinely useful option. Aer Lingus operates daily flights from Manchester to Dublin, connecting to their own transatlantic services to Boston, New York, Chicago, Miami and more. Ryanair also operates from Terminal 3 to Dublin, where passengers can connect to Aer Lingus long-haul flights.

The real advantage is Dublin Airport’s US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) pre-clearance facilities. You clear US immigration in Dublin before you board your transatlantic flight[i]. When you land in the United States, you arrive as a domestic passenger and walk straight out of arrivals – no immigration queues on the other side.

What that means in practice:

  • Fly Manchester – Dublin on Aer Lingus or Ryanair (Ryanair departs from Terminal 3)

  • Connect to the US via Aer Lingus transatlantic services

  • Clear US immigration in Dublin – before you leave Ireland

  • Arrive as a domestic passenger – walk straight out of arrivals

  • On a busy tournament travel day, that saves a significant amount of time

One important note on booking: for this to work smoothly, book your entire journey as a single, unified ticket through Aer Lingus rather than as separate tickets. Booking separately means that if your first flight is delayed and you miss the connection, you have no automatic protection, and your checked luggage will not be transferred to your onward flight. A single Aer Lingus booking covers you end-to-end and keeps your baggage moving with you.

The pre-flight is where your World Cup journey really begins. Here’s where to go in each terminal before you board.

Airport lounges at Manchester Airport

Not everyone on your flight wants to talk about 4-4-2 formations for nine hours – and that’s completely fine. Before the buzz of the main concourse takes over, there’s a quieter world waiting for you in Terminal 2.

The 1903 Lounge

The 1903 Lounge is adults-only and gloriously calm – champagne, cooked-to-order dining, and seats that don't face a screen showing football. This is the upgrade your pre-flight experience deserves.

Book the 1903 Lounge in advance to guarantee your seat.

Escape Lounges

The Escape Lounges delivers the same sanctuary energy, with complementary food and drinks and comfortable seating well away from the main concourse. Both lounges fill up fast in peak summer, so pre-booking is strongly recommended.

Book the Escape Lounges or compare all Manchester Airport lounges.

Whether you're flying to the final in New York, heading to Miami for the matches, or just getting to your seat in a lounge before a long flight, it starts here.
