With a predominantly Greek Orthodox population, Santorini has many traditions and festivals that both adults and children are sure to enjoy:
Santorini Jazz Festival
Celebrating the island’s love of smooth Jazz, this festival runs throughout July and sees many musicians from around the world come to add their soothing melodies to the beautiful landscape. The combination of sun, sea and relaxing music makes this the perfect time to visit.
Ifestia Festival
Held towards the end of August, Ifestia Festival is dedicated to the volcanic eruption that collapsed the centre of the island. There are performances and processions throughout the day as everyone counts down to the eruption, which is depicted by a huge firework display across the entire island, filling the sky with light and colour.
International Music Festival
The International Music Festival takes place towards the start of September as artists from around the world are invited to perform in a series of concerts. The event transforms Santorini with local acts playing alongside superstar talent throughout the day and night. There’s something for all tastes as performances vary from classical musicians to the latest dance trends and, as the festival lasts for several days, everyone can get to their favourite acts.
