This luxurious seaside destination lies in the French Basque Country on the Atlantic coast, only 35km from the Spanish border. One of the best places for seafood is the Port Des Pêcheurs, a former fisherman’s harbour that is now buzzing with eateries.

The popular coastal area boasts an impressive 6km of beaches. The largest is Grande Plage, where you can hire deckchairs and colourful tents for changing. As you’d expect, local attractions, such as Cite de L’Ocean and the Musée De La Mer, have a distinctly aquatic theme. Biarritz has the feel of a charming old-fashioned seaside resort with elegant boulevards, highly rated hotels and golden sandy beaches.
