We realise at Manchester Airport how stressful travelling through an airport can be for children on the Autistic Spectrum, especially when it's a break in their routine and they are unsure of what to expect. With this in mind, we have created our Airport Awareness pack for all our Terminals.
The scheme entitles the person needing special assistance, and immediate family only access to the fast track lane free of charge. This is to try and reduce the waiting and queuing times going through security as this area can get quite very busy. We do need two weeks notice of your trip, as unfortunately, if you apply within 2 weeks this scheme will not be available as we need time to process the packs for you.
The pack includes a booklet that will take you on a journey through Manchester Airport, using photographs to explain the process you will take. The booklet has been divided into the various stages of your journey through the airport, describing what you will see and hear, from arriving at the airport, going through security and includes returning back home.
Also included is a wrist band for our special guest to wear to ensure that our security staff are aware if you require special assistance for the first part of your journey. A helpful video is also available below for advice on your airport journey when travelling with children on the Autistic Spectrum.
We have created this pack in conjunction with advice from the National Autistic Society, Autistic Society Greater Manchester Area and Bolton Kidz2gether.
Please supply the following information two weeks prior to your departure by entering your details on our autism awareness form page. We require you to upload proof of disability this can be in the form of DLA letter, PIP Letter, Occupational Health report or a headed letter from a disability health professional.
Upon receipt of the above information, a Terminal Specific Airport Awareness Pack will be available for you to pick up from the Terminal Information desk on the day of your trip. Please note if your flight is between 11pm - 6am we will post it out to you within plenty of time for your trip as the desk is closed.
We will be delighted to welcome you and your party to Manchester Airport. If we can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Please note, once we have processed your application, all of your documentation will be deleted from all our systems.
