Discover a vibrant city packed with great culture with holidays to Alicante. For many, the city is the gateway to the Costa Blanca and spots such as Benidorm but Alicante is a fantastic place to stay and enjoy a break. Mount Benacantil dominates the city’s skyline, rising up above the harbour and playing host to the Santa Bárbara Castle residing at some 166 metres. You can reach the castle by foot, car, or elevator, and entry’s free, although you do have to pay a little bit for the elevator. The castle overlooks Alicante’s promenade, the Explanada de España. Millions of marble floor tiles have helped create the walkway which runs from the Port of Alicante to the Gran Vía, ending at the statue of Mark Hersch. It’s perfect for a leisurely stroll, particularly in the evenings as things start to come alive. Alicante has a reputation for its buzzing nightlife and it’s a popular place to go for stag and hen dos. These tend to burn brightly and early, compared to the locals who tend to start much later on and can be found out dancing into the early hours. For a dose of culture head to the Gravina Museum of Fine Arts or the Asegurada Museum of Modern Art, which has work from famous names such as Picasso, or try the Archaeological Museum of Alicante. This museum documents Alicante’s history from as far back as the Stone Age, right through Roman and medieval times to the present day. Immerse yourself in the city’s culture or sit back and relax for the day at Postiguet Beach with holidays to Alicante from Manchester.
