MAG Chairman to step down from board
Mike Davies OBE, Chairman of the Manchester Airports Group (MAG), has announced his intention to step down from the board, after a forty-five year career in business.
Mike was appointed non-executive Chairman of MAG in April 2009 and has led the board through a period of rapid growth that has included the acquisition of London Stansted in February 2013 and the announcement of Airport City at Manchester.
Mike has held roles as non-executive chairman of Baxi Group, Marshalls PLC, Royal Mint and Pendragon PLC. In July 2013, he was awarded an OBE by the Queen in her Birthday honours list.
Sir Richard Leese, Leader of Manchester City Council, said on behalf of the shareholders: “We’re grateful to Mike for steering the Group through an important period in its history, and he leaves MAG poised and ready for the next stage of its development. The shareholders are hugely grateful to Mike for his contribution to the Group’s success.”
MAG is one of the largest airport operators in the UK and serves 43 million passengers and handles half a million tonnes of air freight every year, through its ownership of the airports of London Stansted, Manchester, East Midlands and Bournemouth.
Charlie Cornish, Chief Executive of MAG, said: “Mike has had a pivotal role in the growth of MAG, helping to transform the company into what it is today. We’re grateful for his guidance and sound advice over the last five years and we wish him well for the future.”
