‘Fly Manchester’ takes effect on passengers using Manchester Airport
29th May 2013
Manchester Airport saw 1.52 million passengers use the airport during April 2013, according to figures released today. This was a rise of more than 3.5% when compared to April 2012, and marks a 12th consecutive month of year on year growth for the gateway to the North.
The statistics showed international scheduled flight traffic to be up by 6.2%. The growth has been credited to the 17 new routes added since the previous year including direct flights to Moscow, Warsaw and Stavanger.
The airport also has a range of international destinations that include New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Islamabad and Lahore. World class hubs such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha and Singapore also offer access to several destinations in Asia, China, India and Australasia.
A focus on the low cost sector has also gone some way towards Manchester’s continued success. The airport’s ‘Fly Manchester’ campaign was launched in April and sought to raise awareness of Manchester as home to the most low cost flights in the North.
Ken O’Toole, Chief Commercial Officer for Manchester Airports Group (MAG), owners of Manchester Airport, said: “We continue to see a positive uplift in passenger numbers, with Manchester having the highest absolute volume growth of any UK airport this April. April saw the second phase of our ‘Fly Manchester’ campaign launch to highlight the available low cost offering here at Manchester, promoting our extensive carrier and route networks which feature the likes of Ryanair, easyJet, Monarch, Germanwings, Jet2.com and Norwegian amongst others.”
Over 14m passengers are expected to use Manchester Airport during the Summer months. Manchester Airport is part of MAG, the UK’s second largest airport operator, serving 42 million passengers every year through its ownership and operation of Manchester, London Stansted, East Midlands and Bournemouth airports.
