Must see:
In a city that elevates the automobile to the highest form of art, you’d expect the motor museum to be something special – and it is. The Museo dell'Automobile has everything from ancient carriages to F1 racers. In fact, it has over 180 in all, including a whole section dedicated to the beauty of the red sports car.

Must eat at:
If you’re looking for a taste of Piedmont, Spada Real’s your kind of place. It specialises in Piedmontese fayre, as well as a few culinary imports from Tuscany.

Must be there for:
The Gran Balon market, on the second Sunday of the month, is the place to compare, contrast, and haggle for a bargain on everything from pricey antiques to pieces of useless ironmongery. You’ll find it at the Piazza della Repubblica.

Well-travelled tips:
- The city’s Egyptian museum is well worth your time and trouble to find – it houses perhaps the greatest collection of artefacts outside Egypt.
- The Piazza Castello is the place for weary feet to take a break in one of the city’s classy cafes. Try Baratti & Milano for size.
