Must see:
There aren’t many places in Greece that have something in common with Arizona – but the petrified forest of Lesbos is one of them. It’s worth making the trip to witness the amazing fossilised trees first hand.
Must eat at:
Stratos, near the harbour in Mytilene, specialises in fish (and ouzo) – their fried shrimp comes highly recommended.
Must be there for:
August every year brings the Sardine Festival, which, as the name suggests, is a tribute to the humble sardine, which the local area produces in mineral-rich abundance. Go for singing, dancing... and sardines cooked every which way.
- Walk up to Molyvos and take a trip around the hill fort before relishing the view down across the island.
- Increasingly popular jeep safaris give you the chance to explore the island’s undiscovered inland, complete with tiny villages and a more laid-back, rural way of life.
Visa:
British citizens do not need a visa to visit Greece.
