Manchester International Festival


MIF 2011 will take place over ‘Eighteen Extraordinary Days’ from 30th June 2011 to 17th July 2011 and Manchester Airport is one of the Official Sponsors, as it was in 2009 and for the very first festival in 2007.

Manchester International Festival is the world‘s first festival of original, new work and special events and takes place biennially, in Manchester, UK. The full Festival programme will be revealed in March 2011, however, the first shows for the 2011 Festival are announced and on sale now:

The Life and Death of Marina Abramović – a startling new piece for the stage: a biography of the godmother of performance art re-imagined by visionary director Robert Wilson, featuring music written and performed by Antony. Starring Marina Abramović and Willem Dafoe.

Victoria Wood’s That Day We Sang – one of Britain’s best-loved writers and performers creates a new play – the story of the Manchester Children’s Choir.

Wagner die Walküre + The Madness Of An Extraordinary Plan – Sir Mark Elder and the Hallé in a concert performance of Wagner’s Die Walküre plus a specially commissioned dramatic prologue written by Gerard McBurney and directed by Neil Bartlett.
