The Festival launched in 2007 and is the world’s first festival of original, new work taking place every two years in Manchester.
The 2009 Festival has brought together commissions and performances from some of the worlds leading artists for a wide-ranging and thought-provoking programme.
Performances during Manchester International Festival include the legendary Kraftwerk, Mercury Music Prize winners Elbow performing with The Hallé and Prima Donna the debut opera composed by the acclaimed singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright.
