Must see:
For an elevated view of the city (and to get your bearings) head straight to the legendary London Eye on the South Bank for a 35 minute ‘flight’. It’s become an icon in under a decade – and you should discover why.

Must eat at:
In a deep basement off an unassuming side street near Tottenham Court Road tube is Hakkasan – an impossibly trendy and truly delicious Chinese/Asian fusion specialist with more than its fair share of media types, wannabes and has-beens.

Must be there for:
The Lord Mayor’s show on the first Saturday in November still pulls the crowds for its traditional street parade, replete with carnival atmosphere, dazzling floats and the strange sight of the City full to bursting at the weekend.

Well-travelled tips:
If you’re staying for anything more than a few days, it might be worth investing in an Oyster card – a prepaid card for travelling on the tube and buses that’s cheaper than buying lots of single tickets.
To connect with nature without paying to go to the zoo, head for Old Deer Park near Richmond for the magnificent herds of deer roaming free.
