Ladies Day at Manchester Airport
It was ladies day at Manchester Airport when the girls took over the airfield.
A quirk in the rosta saw all five members of the female Airfield Operations team on duty in the same shift for what is believed to be an airport first.
On shift on the day were Sue Scully Airfield Duty Officer, Katherine Hodson a Bird Control Officer, Ann-Marie Casey, Adele Shipley and Liz Yates who are all Airfield Safety Officers. The five women have all worked at the airport for some time but have never actually all been on the same shift together before.
Mike Harris Manchester Airport’s Airfield Duty Manager said: “It was just a happy accident that all the women were on shift at the same time and I hope the gents won’t be offended when I say this because they are just as good, but as you’d expect, everything ran like clockwork that shift!
And he added: “We’re pretty sure it’s the first time that the shift has been run by five women and on a more serious note, it is testament to the fact that we offer equal opportunities. There was a time when the Airfield could have been considered a male domain but now it’s a male and female team effort and the whole airport benefits from that.”
