Must see:
Make a Captain Corelli’s pilgrimage and visit the village of Farsa and nearby Argostoli for a fuller flavour of the film, the locals and the natural scenery. Must eat at: If you’re hungry, then head straight to the Captain’s Table in Argostoli. It’s one of the best places to go for a Kefalonian regional favourite – a hearty meat pie.
Must be there for:
The last weekend of March witnesses an invasion of the two-wheeled variety as the International Cycling Tour of Kefalonia gets into gear. Attracting veterans, former champions and Olympic medal winners, the tour traditionally comprises a gentle warm-up followed by full-on racing starting in the island’s capital Argostoli.
Well-travelled tips:
Hire a boat or join a tour boat and get out to Melissani cave (which is more like a volcanic lake) with stunningly clear waters fed by an underground source.
Fans of the Romans should hot-foot it to Skala to see the remains of a villa with intact mosaic floors, and ongoing digs to unearth yet more.
Visa:
British citizens do not need a visa to visit Greece.
