Must see:
If you fancy a spot of church-spotting to go with your tan, take a trip to one of Goa’s two World Heritage sites. The 400 year-old Bom Jesus Basilica in Old Goa is home to the remains of St Francis Xavier and a whole set of remarkable murals.

Must eat at:
The Copper Bowl in Calangute is much sought after, not just for its authentic Goan cuisine, served in quaint copper pots, but for its setting. Go, and be inspired.

Must be there for:
Arrive in Goa between late August and mid September and, if you’re lucky, you’ll experience the 10-day Ganesha Festival, which is celebrated in no uncertain (and elaborate style) in honour of the elephant-headed Lord Ganesha.

Well-travelled tips:
Hiring a motorbike or scooter is among the easiest and cheapest ways to get around... but make sure you have all the necessary paperwork with you.
Try to avoid the monsoon season if you can... between June and September, Goa gets up to 3 metres of rain...
