Gibraltar, Gibraltar
Terribly British
Gibraltar is a little rocky slice of home that juts out into the Med off the southern tip of Spain. This last remaining chunk of our once mighty Mediterranean empire, known locally as The Rock, is home to a population of 28,000 humans and 230 apes, not to mention an airport with one of the most incredible runways in modern aviation. Go and explore Gibraltar, inside and out.

Must see:
Don’t miss the crags and outcrops of the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, where humans cease to be the dominant force and the island’s resident colony of Barbary Macaques takes over, an eye-popping 421 metres above sea level.
Must eat at:
When in Gibraltar, do as the Gibraltarians do, and enjoy a hearty English breakfast. You can get one of your very own at a bar called The Clipper, on an un-English sounding street called Irish Town.
Must be there for:
The annual Polar Bear Swim on Boxing Day is the perfect post-Christmas detox. Hundreds of festive revellers change into their swimwear and hurtle headlong into the chilly waters of Catalan Bay. Rather them than us...
Well-travelled tips:
Don’t forget to go Dolphin watching in the bay – there are boat trips several times a day.
Go underground, not just to escape the blazing heat. There are more many miles of road under the rock than around it. The rock’s impressive tunnel complex is there to be explored on tours official and otherwise.
Visa:
British citizens do not need a visa to visit Gibraltar.
Duty free shopping:
Although part of Europe, Gibraltar is outside of the EU Value Added Tax Area so you can benefit from duty free prices on certain items purchased when travelling to Gibraltar through our terminals. More information.
