Must see:
If you’ve got the legs for it, the Samariá Gorge is not to be missed. Local tourist agents operate daily excursions to this stunning Greek National Park throughout the summer months or you can make your own way by bus or car.

Must eat at:
The rich cultural heritage of Chania is reflected in its culinary flavours; a blend of North African, Middle Eastern and Greek fare is available. We recommend The Well of the Turk for some authentic cuisine, situated in the quiet streets back from the waterfront.

Must be there for:~
Between the 20th and 30th of May the anniversary of the Battle of Crete is celebrated in the nearby village of Maleme. In the city of Chania itself, the Summer Festival runs from July to September and puts on an array of musical, theatrical and dance performances.

Well-travelled tips:
The route along the Samariá Gorge is well equipped with drinking water springs so you can easily keep hydrated. If you don't fancy the whole hike (16km flat terrain) then ask the local tour operators about the shorter options available.
