Carbon Offset

What it means?

In nearly everything we do, we have an impact on the environment, from driving a car to heating the home.

Like many industries, aviation has a carbon impact on the environment and we need to help strike a balance. It is possible to offset your carbon emissions when booking a flight to ensure that your carbon footprint is kept to a minimum. There are several ways you can do this.

Carbon offsets work by preventing an equivalent amount of carbon emissions from entering the atmosphere. Offset projects use renewable energy and energy efficiency technology to replace more polluting fuels, or by using tree planting to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

What are we doing as an airport group?

The Manchester Airport Group (MAG) recognises that aviation has an environmental impact. Our carbon neutral target does not include the emissions from aircraft leaving our airfields, as they are the responsibility of the airlines. However, those emissions are being dealt with at a European and Global level.

In the meantime, MAG and other operators are assisting with operational and infrastructure developments to complement measures being brought forward in aircraft design and new technology. We also now offer our passengers the ability to offset their flight. More Information>

How can you offset your flight?

Many airlines already offer their customers the opportunity to calculate the carbon emissions from their flight and purchase carbon offset credits to balance these emissions.

Alternatively we work with Carbon Clear to offset the emissions from our business flights.

Please see the Carbon Clear website for prices to offset typical flights to or from the UK. You can use their online calculator to measure and offset the footprint for your specific flight.
