Must see:
The town’s tobacco museum is an excellent hangout, with roomfuls of tributes to the role of the weed in this part of the world and beyond. There’s just one slightly awkward house rule – smoking is not allowed.
Must eat at:
Head out to nearby Cadouin to the warm and welcoming Auberge de la Salvetat for a seasonal menu rich in local produce, and refreshing variety... not to mention friendly British owners.

Every day is a must-see day at the fabulous Bergerac covered market, just by the Grande Rue, for a host of arts, crafts and regional foodie specialities. It’s even open on Sundays.
Well-travelled tips:
· Head out to Lascaux in search of prehistoric caves (and cave paintings) and you’ll find picture-perfect replicas... the originals are now out of bounds.
· If you’ve got the head (and the lungs) for it, canoeing down the River Dordogne is a beautiful, and healthy, way to see the whole region from its very heart.
