Manchester Airports Group (M.A.G.) has today unveiled its plans for the development of a £650million ‘Airport City’ at Manchester Airport at the international property conference, MIPIM.

A new film launched at MIPIM by M.A.G. Chief Executive Charlie Cornish, sets out the vision to transform Manchester Airport from a transport hub into an international business destination in its own right:

Working with the in-house team at Manchester Airports Group the video was delivered by Matt Leigh Industries and Assembly Studios.

Matt Fairman, CEO of Assembly Studios, said: "I am from Manchester and have strong links with the city, so I’m absolutely delighted to be involved in this fantastic project. The video was developed in response to M.A.G.'s need to showcase this complex, large-scale development in an effective, progressive and engaging way, to an international audience at MIPIM.”

Matt Leigh added: “We’ve been working hard lately on helping M.A.G launch Airport City to a wider audience and MIPIM’s always a great springboard for new digital communications such as this. We’re all really pleased with the film we’ve created, which not only looks good but concisely delivers the key USP’s of Airport City. We’ve also spent a great deal of time ensuring it integrates perfectly with all of the other key collateral we’ve developed recently, most notably the interactive iPad models and our brand new marketing suite.”

Building on the global connectivity offered by the airport location, the 150-acre regeneration scheme will deliver over four-million square feet of new high-quality business premises over the next 15 years, with the aim of attracting international companies that would not previously have located in the region, or even the UK.

Speaking at MIPIM, Charlie Cornish, Chief Executive of Manchester Airports Group (M.A.G.), said: “Undoubtedly, the connectivity Manchester Airport brings to the region positively drives its economic and social prosperity. Airport City is a once in a lifetime opportunity to expand on this, creating an international business destination linked to the global connectivity of the North’s major international airport and driven by the region’s global offer in terms of academic, scientific and technological credentials, supported by its communications and transport infrastructure.

“Airport City is one of the most important projects for the economy of the UK and will elevate Manchester on an international scale enabling it to compete with other European airport cities like Amsterdam, Barcelona and Frankfurt.”

The Airport City project will be a focal point of the Manchester Enterprise Zone proposition, alongside a MediPark development at University Hospital South Manchester and Wythenshawe town centre – sites all linked by a new Metrolink tramline currently under construction – and complemented by a series of smaller opportunity sites in across South Manchester. Becoming fully operational from April 2012, it is estimated that the wider 116-hectare Manchester Enterprise Zone will create up to 20,000 new jobs over the next 15-years.

MIPIM brings together the most influential decision-makers in the property industry and provides access to the largest showcase of development opportunities during four days of uninterrupted activity in Cannes.

The Manchester at MIPIM Partnership is led by Marketing Manchester and is supported by Manchester City Council.
