New Lounge leads launch of Travel Extras Store for Manchester Airport

A new Escape Lounge will lead a raft of new offers being unveiled this Summer at Manchester Airport. Launching today, passengers will be able to book all of their travel essentials in one place on the airport website under a new brand label – The Travel Extras Store. The April launch will be the first wave of product launches from the airport over the coming year.

Leading the ten new products on offer will be a new Escape Lounge in Terminal 1. The airport already has an Escape offering in Terminal 2 and has hopes of launching a third in Terminal 3 in the near future. The new lounge in Terminal 1 will be in good company standing alongside the new Emirates Lounge, which was opened in October 2009 and will soon host passengers travelling on the A380 in September.

Having unveiled a massive 80 million investment last Summer and seen that investment welcomed by passengers, the airport is hoping to provide more products in this new 'one stop shop', the Travel Extras Store. It will make it easy for passengers to finalise their travel plans in one place and will support customer’s travel planning whether they may be flying through Manchester or another airport.

The products themselves will consist of the new lounge, car parking, private jet hire, luggage tracking, overseas assistance in an emergency, car rental, hotel booking, flights, holidays and park, stay & fly which will include a hotel stay and car parking the night before travel.

Andrew Harrison, Commercial Director for Manchester Airport, said: “Last year was a massive success for the improvements we unveiled and we’ve seen passengers spending more in the new look terminals. We completely rejuvenated old infrastructure and modernised it for the benefit of the consumer here at Manchester and we were delighted with the results. By unveiling the new Travel Extras Store, we’re looking to expand the amount of touch points we have with our customers and I want the new online store to give our users the best products available to them.”

Another new addition to the Extras Store will be the choice of hiring a private jet through the airport’s link up with Private Fly. Private Fly acts as an internet broker, bringing together passengers with private jet operators, even flying to an airfield of choice if necessary. This was something that proved very useful during the recent issues with Volcanic Ash and the repatriation of passengers to the UK.

Passengers might think that private jets are out of their price range but for larger parties, it can be a cost effective solution and will bring private travel more accessible to the marketplace for those customers who wish to use it. The service will allow the customer the choice of their chosen jet at a competitive market price. For example, a day return to Cornwall in a private plane to experience the culinary delights of the region can cost about 300 per person.

Call Uma, another well-established name on the travel scene, will provide overseas assistance and luggage tracking services. Call Uma have already been on site at Manchester during the last few weeks to offer the luggage tracking service to passengers and have already reunited people with lost luggage in New York. Their overseas assistance product offers multilingual help and information no matter what the customer's time zone or location. By texting the word 'help' to the service the customer will be instantly called back by translators who can assist in an emergency. Alternatively the customer can text a question and the service will text back with the answer, such as providing directions to the nearest chemist wherever in the world they may be.

Andrew Harrison continued: “The new programme will mean our passengers have access to a strong range of products from the UK’s leading British-owned airport group. We already have an Escape Lounge in Terminal 2, and it has performed strongly despite a difficult period in the aviation sector. By launching the Travel Extras Store today, the Summer season will provide a real test bed for these new products in a revived market. We have several airlines expanding out of Manchester at present and I hope that their passengers will be the first to sample the benefits of the new products.”
