Control Tower Bar takes shape at Manchester Airport

The first stage of the world’s first Control Tower Bar has been completed and opened today at Manchester Airport.

Epernay Champagne Bar has opened its third instalment in the UK but first within an airport in Terminal 1 at the base of the Control Tower concept that was announced in November 2009. Manchester Airport announced last year that it would be redeveloping a spare control tower facility into a new leisure outlet.

Phase 2 of the development at the airport will be the redevelopment of the upper level above Epernay’s new bar.

Epernay began operating in Leeds in 2005 and their bars stock over 100 champagnes sourced from large and small houses throughout Champagne. Epernay opened its second bar in Manchester in 2009 and is now making its debut in the airport sector.

Epernay has taken the first phase of the Control Tower Bar on the ground level. The decommissioned control tower is arranged on four main levels with an observation level on level five. The areas are connected by a circulation core, which is serviced by a dedicated passenger lift within a central core.
