- Manchester Airport handled almost 127,000 tonnes of export and import cargo in 2003
- By 2015, it’s expected the airport will be handling around 250,000 tonnes of cargo per year
- Manchester Airport has a dedicated World Freight Terminal, a dedicated community of more than 1,000 professionals managing freight-only aircraft as well as consignments that arrive or depart in the holds of passenger aircraft
- More than 50 freight forwarding firms or agents are on site at the airport. Over 100 others have offices nearby - many of them in Wythenshawe, Stockport and Altrincham or key industrial areas and business parks within 20 miles of the airport
- Manchester's two biggest cargo markets are the Far East and North America.
- The Far East is predominantly a source of import cargo for the airport and North America is a key destination for exports
- The king of Manchester’s cargo destinations is Hong Kong, to which Cathay Pacific and Dragonair fly a total of 12 freighter round trips every week
- Currently, Manchester Airport handles 16 Boeing 747 freighter flights a week
