Travelling with Babies and Children
We know it’s not always easy to travel with babies, toddlers and children, so we’ve made sure that there are plenty of things to do at the airport, and lots of help when it comes to sitting down to eat.
Security
Under current security restrictions, you are required to carry any liquid baby food in a small re-sealable container which you will be asked to taste before going through security.
Food and drink
We want to make your journey as smooth as possible, so we have provided ‘parent points’ in the main catering outlets in Terminals 1 and 2 where you can find cleaning materials. All restaurants and cafes provide high chairs.
The Food Villages and The Real Food Company in Terminals 1 and 2 offer a ‘Globetrotters’ meal for just £1.99 that includes a range of options, including half jacket potatoes with a filling or beans on toast, and a soft drink. There is also a Globetrotters Pick n mix chiller offers our younger passengers the choice of picking their own snacks to take away in their own little box. The choice of 5 products includes a ham or cheese sandwich, fruit jelly, a piece of fruit, crisps and chocolate bar as well as a cold drink.
Where you can take your buggy
We know that you need your child’s buggy until you board the plane, so you can take it right through security to the departure gate where airline staff will take it from you and return it to you at your destination.
Baby Changing Facilities
Baby changing facilities can be found across all three terminals, either inside or nearby the ladies toilets.
Lone parents
If you are travelling alone with small children, and require additional assistance please contact your airline who will make the necessary arrangements.
Entertainment
There is a children’s play area in The Food Village in Terminal 2. We’ve also provided art desks in most eating areas where your children can colour in and play. For older children there are games rooms available throughout the airport. Please ensure that your children are under your supervision at all times.
Terminal 1’s Real Food Company also offers a kids’ play area with a TV showing the latest cartoons, a puzzle-mania table and colouring sets. The kids menu also doubles up as a fantastic puzzle and colouring in page that will keep them occupied while you relax in our seating area.
We provide bottle warming facilities for parents to heat milk and baby food in the unit, so you can relax with your family rather than worrying about finding somewhere to heat up food for your baby. Just ask a member of staff who will direct you to the bottle warmers
Medical
If you have forgotten anything, or if your child needs medication while you are at the airport, Boots offers a pharmacy service before security in both Terminals 1 and 2. Please note that any liquids, creams, gel and pastes must be of 100ml or less if carried in your hand baggage. Anything over 100ml will not be allowed through security.
Provisions during delays
If you experience a delay at the airport, your airline will try to make your wait as comfortable as possible by providing baby milk and nappies.
Tips for flying with children
Contact your airline in advance to see what they offer onboard for children, such as sky cots, baby food, toddler meals, and children's entertainment.
Ask whether you can reserve seats in advance, so that you can guarantee that you are all flying together as a family.
If you can, book a flight that's not likely to be full. You may get an empty seat next to you or even a free row.
Allow plenty of time to do everything, and allocate sufficient time to navigate the airport with children. Families are usually permitted to board the aircraft first.
To avoid accentuating tiredness, try and fly during reasonable daytime hours, so that your children’s daily routine isn’t disrupted too much.
