- Manchester Airport currently handles around 170,000 tonnes of import and export freight and mail annually.
- By 2015 it's expected the airport will be handling around 250,000 tonnes of cargo per year
- Manchester Airport's cargo facility, the World Freight Terminal, is a community of more than 1,000 professionals managing freight-only aircraft as well as consignments that arrive or depart in the holds of passenger aircraft.
- Manchester's largest cargo markets are the Far East, North America and the Middle East.
- The Far East and Middle East are predominantly sources of import cargo whilst North America is a key destination for exports
- The largest single cargo market is Hong Kong from which Cathay Pacific Cargo fly up to 13 freighter round trips per week.
- Currently, Manchester Airport handles up to 25 Boeing 747 freighter flights per week.
- It comprises of 55,000 square metres of purpose-built warehouse and office space – home to five industry-leading cargo-handling companies, five global logistics providers, with almost 100 freight forwarders and agents on the airport site nearby.
- Located at the heart of the UK’s motorway network, the cities of Birmingham, Bradford, Coventry, Hull, Liverpool, Leeds, Nottingham, Sheffield, Stoke and Wolverhampton are all less than two hours away. London, Glasgow and Edinburgh are within four hours reach.
