Singapore Airlines opened it's cargo office in Manchester in August 1978 moving to the airport in February 1979 and occupying a hut at the end of the runway. On 1st April, 1986 we began flying into Manchester with a 747-300 Combi. Since then we have continued uninterrupted with various routings both direct and via Europe and we are the longest serving, long haul carrier at Manchester. Our present routing is via Munich and we operate a daily 777-300 aircraft with capacity for pallets, containers and bulk cargo space.
Singapore Airlines has been in the cargo business for over 50 years, since we first flew the Airspeed Consuls in 1947. In July 1992, a fully-fledged Cargo division was formed to devote even more attention to the cargo business. As a further step in our evolution we were formed as an independently managed subsidiary of Singapore Airlines on the 1st July 2001.
In addition to the Manchester Service, Singapore Airlines operates from London Heathrow with thrice daily passenger services, operated by A380 and Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, as well as twice weekly pure freighter aircraft flights. The airline is based in Singapore and flies to six continents covering most major cities with multiple daily connections to Australia, Europe and America. Incorporating flights on SilkAir, a wholly owned regional subsidiary airline, Singapore Airlines can offer excellent connections and capacity throughout Asia, bringing the total number of destinations served to 73 cities in over 37 countries worldwide. Singapore Airlines has European Cargo Hubs in Brussels and Amsterdam with 747-400 freighters which, in addition to our usual passenger aircraft schedules to the Far East and Australia, can offer direct flights to America. South Africa and the Middle East. Within every country, we also have extensive trucking networks serving many offline points and the facility to arrange specialist transport to individual destinations if required.
Singapore Airlines operates one of the most modern carrier fleets, including the Airbus A380 carrying lower deck units in its holds and 747-400 pure freighter aircraft with Main Deck space for out of gauge and heavy cargo. All flights offer space for containerised and bulk cargo and we can obtain lockable units for valuable products. With a specialised 'CoolPort' facility in Singapore we are able to move and monitor shipments requiring Temperature Control. Experts in the movement of horses, the company has an excellent and long track record of caring for and flying competition animals worldwide.
