Must see:
The late ancient era Diocletian Palace is unique for a whole number of reasons. Built between 209 and 305 AD, it’s a wonderful example of perfectly preserved ancient architecture, now sensitively presented to the public. Don’t forget to explore its cellars to see the many artefacts discovered on site.
Must eat at:
Kod Joze on Sredmanuska has a whole selection of delicious dishes inspired by local traditions. It’s family run, too, and everyone seems to get involved.
Must be there for:
Every September, the International Festival of New Film comes to venues around town. Embracing all sorts of moving images – from film to video and digital media – the festival supports experimentation and innovation.
Well-travelled tips:
- Some of the best sunbathing around is to be had at the beach at Bacvice – it’s immensely popular with the locals and really fills up on weekends.
- With beautiful coastline and tantalisingly blue sea, there’s plenty of sailing to be had – ask at the harbour about local charters.
Visa:
British citizens do not need a visa to visit Croatia.
