Must see:
Take a trip to the bottom of a nearby cliff to check out the island’s famous red beaches... which resembles holidaying on Mars (with a strong Greek accent).
Must eat at:
Selene, in Fira, is said not only to be one of the best restaurants on the island, but one of the finest in Greece. Highly creative use of local ingredients in season, as well as fine meats, and a dazzling location make this a place (as well as a view) to truly savour.
Must be there for:
The Santorini Jazz Festival, held every August in Kamari’s outdoor cinema, used to be a showcase for local talent. Now, an increasingly international crowd have been drawn to its charms.
Well-travelled tips:
- If you can’t face a donkey trek up 588 steps up to Fira from the port below, take the cable car – it’s much more civilised.
- The sunsets are better at Oia, it’s said... go for charm and just a touch of romance as the sun slips below the horizon.

British citizens do not need a visa to visit Greece.
