Must see:
Paderborn Cathedral is well worth a visit. Mainly dating from the 12th and 13th centuries, it’s home to a number of interesting works of art and religious relics.
Must eat at:
Get a hearty traditional feed in the Ratskeller in the old town hall building, where you can expect local favourites including venison stew and smoked sausages.
Must be there for:
Every July, the town hosts Liborifest, celebrating the life and work of its patron saint, St. Liborius. His relics ended up here over 1200 years ago and have remained ever since.
Well-travelled tips:
- Head out to the nearby countryside for the 17th Century Wewelsburg Castle – it has the only ‘triangular’ castle design in Germany.
- Get out of town and hit the local hinterland, which is criss-crossed with well signed walking paths and cycling routes.
Visa:
British citizens do not need a visa to visit Germany.
