Must see:
To do something different from the beach-and-snorkellnorm, take the 20 mile trip out of town in search of Croydon Plantation in the Catadupa mountains to discover the island’s agricultural riches – in the shape of coffee and pineapples. All-in, it’s a fascinating glimpse of the island’s past.

Must eat at:
The Houseboat Grill at Montego Freeport serves-up an eclectic Caribbean fusion to an upmarket crowd either inside or out on the deck... and booking is recommended.

Must be there for:
Mid-summer sees the fabulous music festival Sumfest come to Montego Bay... with huge beachfront beats, seriously dirty dancing and a vibe that’s sky high.

Well-travelled tips:
While shops tend to insist on fixed prices, when you’re shopping in the market, anything goes – and, provided you can keep your cool, haggling’s the thing!
Beware Jamaican driving! If you take to the roads, you’ll battle all sorts of hazards... so you’ll need to keep your wits about you.
