The Modern, on levels 5 and 6 of Urbis (the local museum of Urban history), is a sleek and contemporary place to come and enjoy some classic British cuisine with an impressive view of the city centre rooftops.

The Manchester Derby isn’t a horse race, but one of the most historic fixtures in English football which splits the Red and Blue halves of Manchester, representing United and City respectively, against one another. Getting a ticket, however, might be a challenge!
Well-travelled tips:
- For an alternative take on the shopping scene, head to the Northern Quarter, which offers a Soho-like collection of artsy retailers, music stores and stylish retro boutiques.
- One of the best and quickest ways to get around the city is on the gleaming Metrolink – or tram – system. If you’re planning to make more than one journey in a day, it makes sense to buy a multi-journey Metromax ticket.
