La Romana, Dominican Republic
100 years old
At scarcely 100 years old, industrial La Romana, which lies in the south-eastern Dominican Republic, has a real newness and vibrancy about it. Most people come for the scenery, however, and the sheer natural beauty of its hinterland, which boasts some of the northern Caribbean’s most beautiful and unspoilt beaches and liveliest all-inclusive resorts.
