Kefalonia grew in popularity after the early millennium film, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, was set on the island. Browse our selection of holidays to Kefalonia and see for yourself why this gorgeous destination was so ideally suited for big screen fame. The island has some of the most picture-perfect beaches in all of Greece, with stunning Myrtos Beach among the most beautiful. Think tree-flecked cliffs plunging down towards chalky white sands and turquoise waters and you’ll get the idea. If you love your scenery then Kefalonia is a wonderful island to explore, and hiking up Mount Ainos is one of the best ways to see it all from up high. The mountain’s the biggest in the Ionian islands, and throws up the chance to see wild ponies, the remains of an ancient temple and enjoy fabulous views from a summit that’s over 1,600m high. Kefalonia also plays host to one of the most impressive caves in all of Greece: Drogarati. It’s big, old and there are even musical events put on sometimes which show off the cave’s incredible acoustics. Melissani Cave is one of Kefalonia’s top draws and is an incredible lake that’s over 20 metres below ground. Make sure you dip into Kefalonia’s wonderful dining scene while you're there, which includes an array of tasty pies, a range of seafront tavernas, and performers that will entertain you with guitars and mandolins. Hire a car or boat and go in search of secluded bays as another way to enjoy holidays in Kefalonia.
