Sitting in the southwest corner of Barbados, holidays to Bridgetown are the perfect escape if you want to blend the idyllic setting of an exotic island escape with the excitement of a buzzing little city.
There are plenty of important sights and landmarks dotted around Bridgetown that you should visit on your trip, including the National Heroes Square and Fountain Garden, Independence Square with its Independence Arch, and the Parliament Buildings of Barbados. If you’re interested in learning more about the island’s history then head to the Barbados Museum.
Make your way to the port area known as Deep Water Harbour to spot large cruise and cargo ships, or the Careenage on Constitution River to see smaller traditional fishing boats bobbing in the water. The Careenage is only around half a kilometre south of the main harbour, so go for a stroll and stop for a refreshing drink between the two.
You'll no doubt want to hit the beach and soak up some sun while you’re in Bridgetown, and there are central stretches such as Brownes Beach and Pebbles Beach as well as swathes of sandy strips as you move further away from the city along the coast. Sit back in the sands, go on a boat trip to see more of the coastline, or try your hand at scuba diving as you enjoy the warm Caribbean weather.
Visit the Cathedral Church of Saint Michael and All Angels, watch a game of cricket at the Kensington Oval and go on a tour of the Mount Gay rum distillery with Bridgetown holidays.
