About Figari

Gateway to the island birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte

Corsica, today, is more likely to play host to visitors seeking undiscovered France than historians seeking more about Josephine. Base yourself in Figari and you'll be getting away from it all. With a different, and slower pace of rural life on offer, but all the delights of coastal Corsica just a quick hop away.

Hotels in Figari

Figari Airport provides easy access to two of Corsica's prime attractions - the winding backstreets of Bonifacio, and the beaches and resorts of Porto-Vecchio, both of which sit just over 20km away. The small village of Figari itself, a little way inland, offers limited accommodation. Bonifacio, by contrast, boasts the likes of the Hotel Maora Village (Route de Santa Manza), just 300m from the coast, while Porto-Vecchio's top picks include Grand Hotel de Cala Rossa (Route de Cala Rossa) and Les Bergeries de Palombaggia (Route de Palombaggia), both of which offer beachfront luxury.

Shopping in Figari

Porto-Vecchio has been dubbed Corsica's answer to St Tropez, so if you're looking for trendy boutiques and fashion outlets, you'll be in luck. The majority of these are located in the Old Town, where as well as high-end clothing and footwear you'll also find souvenirs, food items and gifts. Most hotels and resorts also have well-stocked souvenir shops. Down in Bonifacio, chic boutiques are also easy to come by - it attracts more visitors than any other town on the island, so you can expect the full range of tourist-friendly goods, both traditional and otherwise.

Food & Drink in Figari

There are some superb seafood restaurants to be found in this corner of Corsica, not least in Bonifacio at the U Capu Biancu (Route Canetto), where local ingredients are combined with the produce of the hotel's own vegetable and herb gardens. Or try Porto-Vecchio at Tamaricciu (Plage de Palombaggia), perched right on the beach and serving a none-more-fresh catch of the day. A good choice for classic Corsican home cooking is Auberge Le Licetto (Route du Phare de Pertusato, Bonifacio), while the pleasingly named Kissing Pigs (15 quai Banda del Ferro, Bonifacio) is right on the dock and has a strong reputation.
