Visitors flock to Cairo to see the pyramids rise above the sun-baked sands, and watch the Sphinx sitting magnificently under the clear blue sky – stay for a night or two in Giza for easy access, or you could spend a lot of time in the tourist traffic from the city.

A cruise down the River Nile is still one of the best ways to explore Egypt, including the architectural treasures around Aswan and Luxor. But you’ll find many of the city’s main historic tourist sites in the city of Cairo, including the Mosque of Mohammed Ali, the Hanging Church, and the Salahdin Citade.
